Pretty little quilts by Martha, my mom

Here is one of my mom's birthday presents to me.  I love the pure cherry reds and the red work sunbonnet babies.

A few of my dolls are enjoying the other quilt that Mom made me.  I begged her for a quilt with this color combination and I just think it's gorgeous.  She embroidered the first letters of everyone in my family on this quilt - including G for Gypsy, our little rat terrier.

Small quilts made from old scraps

A friend gave my mom an old quilt that was in tatters and Mom made several small quilts from it.  Mom looked the fabrics up in a reference book and read that they are indigo pieces from the 1840's-50's.

I love this scrolling pattern.

The quilt was quilted with blue thread.  Here's the back.

Mom created this one from some old blocks.

Here's a close up.  I LOVE the one in the middle.

Another close up.

Detail.

Here's what I'm cooking my family for dinner.  I hope they like it!

Doll Rugs

My mom hooked the wool bird rug on top. I found the other one at a thrift shop. Dolls need rugs.

Swap

My friend Courtney made the beautiful doll quilt for me (using Civil War repro fabrics) and I made the doll for her. I love the quilt! She tied it instead of quilting it because she read that little doll quilts were usually tied. The backing is a vintage sheet.

Old Doll Quilts

I took these photos of old doll quilts at the Dorothy Meredith Doll Show in San Antonio. Incredible quilts.

My Babyland Rag and New York dolls

Here are my versions of a Babyland Rag doll and New York doll. I found the yo-yo quilt behind rag baby at Goodwill. It was in tatters. I tried to give it new life. The yo-yo's are made from head scarves from the 50's and 6o's. My New York doll is sitting in a old child's chair that I got from an antique store near Bardstown, Ky.

Red dress and old apron

I made the plain red dress with cotton that I found in Lilly Mae's booth. The red cotton is old and crisp. It was in a bag filled with 30's and 40's scraps and beautiful quilted stars that my mother appliqued to feedsack cloth and turned into a doll quilt. The apron is also older - from a doll show. I love the tiny rip in front.
