Walnut Boats

We do this project every year at New Years.  My kids still beg for it.  Cover the bottom of a tub with pretty, shiny things.  Put some holly and greenery into vases and put these in the tub.  Fill the tub with water.  Fill walnut shell halves with wax and put a small candle in each.  Set them afloat and enjoy.

Here's a little boat!

  1. Oh Elaine, this brings back memories. When I was in high school, we had a Junior Achievement assignment in which we made 'floating walnut candles' to sell door to door.

Didn't sell ONE! So, we lit em all at home and it was sure pretty!

  2. That's a funny story, Robin. They're not worth a dime, but they are pretty!

  3. Oh, what a memorable tradition to have. Your kids will always remember it!

Reminds me of the floating candles we had as kids...I LOVED THOSE.
