Happy New Year!

I made this doll for my mom for Christmas.  Mom made the dress, underclothes and the quilt.  The doll's name is Carol.

Carol, again.

Carol and Gypsy, the rat terrier, who is resisting the urge to gnaw on Carol's little foot...

Dolls have a New Year's tea party at Mom's house with some vintage tin dishes.  The beautiful little doll table was made by Jack O'Neill, Edyth's husband.

Gypsy enjoys Mom's hooked rugs, especially this chicken rug.

2010 Dolls and 2011 Doll Making Goals

Here's my latest Queen Anne.

The Queen Annes decided to have a party.  I fell in love with Queen Annes this year.  I had always been attracted to their odd little faces.  I really enjoy working with the wooly hair and little beady black eyes and funny, sharp faces.  I really want a sheep.  A REAL sheep.  My rat terrier, Gypsy, tells me that it's a very bad idea.

Here are some of my latest Izannah inspired dolls.  I don't know how I can possibly still be so obsessed with one type of doll.  My obsession is almost 2 years old.  There's something magical about Izannahs.

Here are some of my hybrid dollies. They are all inspired by older dolls.  I love all old dolls.

Here are my doll goals for 2011:

1. Find an original, antique Izannah Walker doll at the local thrift shop and purchase her for $5.
2. Make dolls.
3.  MAYBE...sell a doll.  There are plenty to spare around here at the McNally house, according to my family.
4. Teach a doll making class in my kids' homeschool co-op.  I'm excited about this one!  I hope that the kids (a small group of 7-9 year old girls) have fun.  My daughter, 13, is going to be the helper.  She's already a fantastic doll maker.  It should be an interesting experience...maybe a little scary...

Sweet little china head and her weird sister

Edyth O'Neill gave me a little broken china head.  She became a real doll this week.  She's very happy.  Her name is Nan.  The dress fabric is from an old quilt top scrap that Edyth found on a scavenging spree.  I still need to give her some boots.

Here's Nan in her birthday suit, with her patched shoulder plate visible.  Her sister is a strange Queen Anne style doll that I'm making.

Here's the shard.

Nan, before restoration.
